Pie is the horse I have been dreaming about. I have wanted a blue roan since I was a little girl. I had a blue roan Breyer (model) horse that I adored as a child. Since I first started studying bloodlines (long before I had my own Gypsies) I have wanted a horse from SD Farm in the United Kingdom. Their breeding program is exceptional. The Down’s forebears have selectively bred these horses for over 200 years. I had seen photos of Pie on a friend's Facebook page from her visit to SD in 2017 and had inquired about Pie. When I couldn't get her out of my head I contacted Janie and Bonny about Pie. She was not listed for sale but they knew how much I wanted a blue roan mare of this quality. After chatting with them we started making arrangements to bring her home. We visited SD in England in August of 2018 with our friends Joe and Livia. It was one of the most amazing days of my life. Bonny and Dixie graciously drove us for close to 7 hours from field to field so we could see some of their horses, including our Pie. My knowledge of the breed and it's history grew as we chatted with them. The consistency in their fields is unequaled, there was not a horse I would not be proud to own. We were able to speak with Mr. Steve Down for a bit too and even though it was a short visit we learned a lot. We look forward to visiting SD in the future. We can not thank the Down's enough for this opportunity. Pie gave birth to a big filly by The Don in early May and we are waiting for her to wean so she can come home to us in the fall of 2018. She has had three other foals in the UK, another by SD The Don and two by SD Knomeo- all are exceptional. We had the great fortune to meet two of her foals. She has been bred to SD The Gambler for a late April 2019 foal which will be owned by our great friends, Joe and Livia Brine of Wool & Withers Farm in Massachusetts. Pie began her formal training in July 2020 and has been amazing everyone as she takes everything in stride. We are extremely excited to see what she has learned and to get her into the show ring.
